Candy Hearts

Today's post is from the archives. You remember those chalky candy hearts that come in the little boxes that all the kids loved to get. Each little message had so much meaning when you were a child of nine or ten. I tried to recreate that feel on my nails.

The colors I used were OPI Gargantuan Green Grape, Alpine Snow, Banana Bandana, Lucky Lucky Lavendar, and Nubar Oh Baby. For the lettering I used a create your own nail stickers technique. I dabbed some clear polish on a plastic Baggie then wrote the words with a red sharpie once the polish had dried. I let that set for a few minutes, then carefully clear coated it. Not all clear polishes will work for this so you may have to try a few, but I used Sally Hansen Diamond Shine. Once the decals were completely dry I trimmed them and positioned them on my nails. I added a quick dry clear coat then China Glaze Matte Magic to give them the dry look.

I had someone tell me that the marker would stain my nails through the polish. I took this shot to show that it did not. I just have regular ole polish stainage going on. You can see that the finish is no longer as matte as it started.

I received bunches of compliments (and comments) on this mani. Would you try this?
See you soon!

  2. This is gorgeous! I tried something similar last year but never got the writing right so I just left it as a pastel skittle mani.

    1. Thank you so much! I think the lettering could be improved on still. :) I enjoyed it enough to do it again if I find a way.

Thank you for commenting! I love to read your comments and welcome them. I try to respond to every one. It's so nice to know someone is "listening".

I do maintain a "be nice" commenting policy. Comments that are strictly offensive, spammy, self-promotional, or mean-spirited may be removed. I'm really sad to even have to add that sentence.
